SMITH IS BACK
BRIDGEPORT, CT- In his first day at ASM Quarterback School, Gary Smith felt like a fish out of water throwing the football for the first time since 2007.
Gary Smith was the quarterback in waiting three years ago for the nationally recognized Connecticut Giants. After suffering an injury against the Baltimore Warriors in the second game of the season in 2007, Smith was replaced by little known backup Richie Snowden and the rest is as they say, “Minor League” history. Snowden went on to lead the team to two undefeated seasons and acknowledged as one of the country’s top players. At 6’1” 215, Smith who was arguably the teams’ top athlete was utilized as a receiving fullback where he caught 20+ passes in each of the next two seasons.
Stepping away from the game at the end of 2008, Smith established a holistic massage business and became a first time father. “I needed to get some things together before I did anything” said Smith, “becoming a father was very important to me, now that my family is situated; I am ready to come back and play the game that I love and missed”.
“He’s always is fantastic shape, he’ll clearly find a spot on our team” said Bearcats GM and ASM president Bernie Armstrong, “we expect him to compete for the quarterback job and push Richie in my opinion”. See footage of Smith during ASM'S 2010 Qb camp below.
